Welcome to GYAC!

Our 2019-2020 After School Program Applications are now online. Please click below on the button to view and print applications to turn them into the main office as soon as possible. Enrollment is on a first come-first served basis.

The Gifford Youth Achievement Center is a space which offers people of all ages a place to grow through education to live a quality-filled life. We offer many opportunities for students to receive homework assistance; help from tutors, teachers and mentors; care in a supportive, nurturing atmosphere and after-school and summer education in a safe place.

Adults and seniors in the Gifford and Indian River County area attend daily morning classes including exercise, QiGong, crafts, Bible study, and others. Our partners offer health and wellness checkups throughout the year and we have an invaluable community respite program called the Breathing Room for memory impaired residents. GYAC also holds free food banks twice per month for those in need.

GYAC is called "The Miracle on 43rd Avenue," and it is true. People from every walk of life, every gender and race, and all ages, have found something at the Center to help enhance and transform their lives. Please join us in supporting our youth and local adult/senior residents in the mission of GYAC to help everyone lead happy and productive lives.

GYAC...where education is our focus!

Whether it is summer camp or during the school year, the Gifford Youth Achievement Center is making sure our students are prepared for the real world. Education has always been our focus so even during the summer break, our teachers continue the education process to ensure our children graduate. Classes keep students from losing knowledge during that "summer slide," but we also know children need to have fun too. Recreational activities and field trips let them enjoy their time off while still learning something about the world around them.

All of the students participate in classes combining studies in:

  • History
  • Math
  • English
  • Science
  • Character Building

In addition to their studies, GYAC offers many other opportunities. Mornings begin with classroom activities followed by recreation in the gym; tennis camp provided by the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation, swimming at the Gifford Aquatic Center; movies at the Majestic Theater; roller skating at Skate Town USA and field trips around the state.

Science Institute of Discovery

Each year students are selected to participate in the Science Institute of Discovery, a six week program concentrating on STEAM subjects. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.) This year's main focus is on computer Coding and working with ORCA (Ocean Research and Conservation Association). Students will participate in studies measuring water analysis looking for pollutants in marine life, water and soil as well as ways to help our environment. Coding is another valuable skill which teaches how to code a computer to program it to do certain tasks such as gaming, analytical processing and even teaching a program to move products around a warehouse or delivered to a purchaser.
